First National Contact Points’ Meeting

The first National Contact Points’ (NCP) Meeting took place in Tbilisi on 10-11 October 2013 and gathered 52 participants from 22 Prague Process states, the European Commission and European Training Foundation, as well as international and non-governmental organizations, such as the Austrian Economic Chamber, the Central European University, ICMPD, IOM, MARRI, Tian Shan Policy Centre of the American University of Central Asia, People in Need Foundation and local NGOs.   

The aim of the first NCP Meeting was to exchange information and enhance future cooperation on Labour Migration among the PP states. Participants presented their own national policies while also learning from other PP states. Recent findings, good practices and policy recommendations were presented both at the national and regional level while also taking a closer look at some particular policy elements, including pre-departure information, labour matching and the risks of brain waste, the economic significance of labour migration or the current and envisaged bi- and multilateral cooperation agreements in this area. After a short introduction to the EU policy on promoting well-managed labour migration, all participating countries delivered a short presentation of their respective national Labour Migration policies. At the regional level, the meeting covered the current situation in terms of Labour Migration in the EU, the Eastern Partnership countries, the Western Balkans and Central Asia. At the end of the meeting, participants discussed the next steps within the PP TI and potential future Prague Process initiatives.
