We have the pleasure to inform you that the Prague Process has introduced the regular update of the country factsheets, now featuring the latest migration-related trends and policy developments in Belgium, Hungary and the Netherlands.
Here are a couple of highlights that offer a glimpse into recent developments. Explore the full version of the factsheets to review the detailed analysis and data.
Belgium: Temporary protection
- Belgium is hosting displaced people under temporary protection - 93,350 people at the end of August 2025, UNHCR. Some of them entered the Belgian labour market, with labour market integration rate of 14-17% by February 2023. Most jobseekers were young, educated women (around 75% female, 70% aged 25-49, and 60% highly skilled), although many held degrees not formally recognised in Belgium.
Hungary: Growing immigration
- According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), the number of foreigners residing in Hungary has increased steadily in recent years. In 2024, the country hosted 250,912 foreign residents, the highest number recorded since 1995.
Netherlands: Steadily growing population
- The population of the Netherlands grew by 6.7% over the same period, reaching 18,044,027 in 2024. This growth was primarily driven by immigration, as the country experienced negative natural population growth. Around 3.4 million people residing in the Netherlands originate from outside Europe with persons born in Türkiye, Morocco and Suriname representing the three largest groups (468,726, 433,337, and 367,771 respectively).

The factsheets offer concise and valuable insights in the migration landscape of these countries, providing data from both national and international sources. They also highlight key developments in migration policies and legislation. While the national data is updated by the Secretariat and ICMPD colleagues as well as external experts, the data from international sources is refreshed automatically as it becomes available.
